What We’re Reading: Boe Sapun

What We're Reading: Boe Sapun, LVBX Magazine
Artist and curator, Boe Sapun, on what she’s currently reading and flipping through while laying on the beach.

What’s your favorite re-read? At the moment, I’m re-reading David Walsh’s autobiography, A Bone of Fact. He was a professional gambler and art collector who used his own money to found and build the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart, Tasmania.

What’s on your coffee table? I love art books. I have a collection on my coffee table and am always on the search to add more. Here are some favourites I tend to look through often:

Painting People, Charlotte Mullins

Georgia O’Keeffe, Randall Griffin

Pablo Picasso, Hajo Duchting

What do you read when laying on the beach? On the beach, it’s always easy-read magazines such as Vogue, Belle, and Harper’s Bazaar. I appreciate beautiful photography, fashion, interior design, and the articles are short enough to read and then jump in for a refreshing swim.

What’s on your bedside table? Wicked But Virtuous by Mirka Mora. I’m very fond of this French-born Australian artist. This book is very dear to me as she writes about her life at her beach home in Aspendale (my home town). This beach house is literally only doors away from my art gallery Écume. She talks about how she and her husband came here to frolic on the beach, to paint, and to party with some of Australia’s most influential artists. It makes me smile knowing that I live and work in an artist hub.

What do you read to inspire you? Positive self-help books. Rags-to-riches stories are always inspirational. I’m naturally inquisitive and I enjoy reading about how people get inspired and motivated and what it is that sets them apart from others.

Secrets of Female Entrepreneurs Exposed, Dale Beaumont

It’s Not How You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be, Paul Arden
